The guide refers to units in terms of their classification - ranged, melee, or air. At no point should you become stuck in Sacrifice because you don’ t have a certain ability or special character. Therefore, the walkthrough for each mission has been written to accommodate you in terms of spells and units under your command. Throughout the story you make decisions that change a great many things including the spells you can cast, the creatures you can summon, and the god you follow. About This Guide If you own Sacrifice or have played it, you know how large a game it is in terms of the options available. Sacrifice has definitely raised the bar as well as charted new territory, and will be a classic for years to come. But it is a theme rarely used that lends itself extremely well to a medium as expressive as video games. One need look no further the myths of ancient Greece or the Norse legend of Ragnarokk just to name two. Granted, our history is filled with stories of gods waging war and sowing discord, only to be destroyed by those that served them. In the end it delivers a powerful message though, that none of us are innocent and "by our action and inaction make the world what it is". Despite the seriousness of the tale and the theme of war, humor pervades Sacrifice, both openly and often with a certain subtleness. It’ s one of those games that will keep you up late into the night. The story immerses you in a situation full of betrayal, intrigue, and corruption that occur on an epic level. Despite it’ s length, Sacrifice never drags or grows dull. The individual missions can take literally hours to defeat and with close to fifty of them, well, that’ s a lot of game play. In the meantime, Sacrifice is more than enough to put a grin on the faces of the most serious gamers. A Lord of the Rings game would fit the design perfectly. Hopefully it will open up a whole new genre of video game, much like the first person shooters did so many years ago. Despite this uniqueness, it’ s such a simple yet wonderful concept when one thinks about it. Nay, you are in the thick of the carnage, side by side with your minions, struggling with them to remain alive. You’ re no wizard, sitting high atop his tower, commanding the battle from a safe distance. The combination of real time combat and strategic planning add to the broad appeal Sacrifice will have, but not nearly as much as how it goes about this. The graphics and sound are simply perfect, and emphasize the beauty and originality that went into the characters, spells, and various realms you explore. Of course, that’ s far from being the only thing that will hook you on the game. You’ ll come back to this game time and time again, and still possibly never create every single combination available. Sacrifice is anything but a one-week wonder. Therein lies the real beauty of Sacrifice — depth and replay ability. You choose the deity you wish to champion but are permitted to switch often along the way, altering events as well as the skills Eldred will develop. The land itself is divided into five areas representative of the different gods who each desire your aid in becoming the supreme entity. Yes, Sacrifice occurs in the past, cleverly adapting the story depending on the decisions you make during your journey. He finds the wise prophet, Mithras, who does not understand what has taken place and asks Eldred to impart him the tale. The story begins with the battle already ended, your wizard, Eldred, wandering the battlefield, surveying the carnage. Another world, ruled by five bickering and dysfunctional deities, will be the backdrop for this surprisingly epic tale.
